A few days ago 3dbuzz.com (an awesome video tutorial site) ran a free 5 hour UDK class for beginners. It was very well done and covered lots of stuff.
In any case, I decided to pose a challenge for UDK beginners. The brief was simple:
Construct a simple level using the assets provided with UDK.
I also decided to do it myself; recently I've been really focused on creating assets, and not actual level design. It can't be a bad thing to come go back to basics as it were and throw some stuff together. Bellow is the floor plan with some notes.
I would have some more updates on the fantasy world but due to some data loss before Christmas I am back to more or less where I updated last. Upside is that I have some better ideas of how to move forward. downside is I feel really burnt out on it. Nothing like seeing all your work disappear to dampen your mood.
While I recharge on that front I decided to mess around with a smaller, more detailed environment. A self contained flat, with a sci-fi kick. Taking inspiration from the likes of TRON, Neuromancer and parts of Star Trek.
I hope to mix these two lighting levels up a bit, letting the player turn on and off various lighting effects.
